Imagine driving with speed on the open road, with the view of the sea or mountains around you, and a companion with you in the car to share the feeling of adventure.  Naturally, you’d like to savor the moment, but also save it. You could take a photo or video with your phone, but what if you could go ultra-pro? If you could film the entire ride from above?  That’s where Polestar’s new concept car comes in. And you know what? It’s stunning.  The so-called Polestar O₂ is intriguing in many ways.  First up, it’s an electric sports roadster, aiming to shape the future of electric convertibles, which are still elusive within the EV industry.  The Polestar O₂ also boasts high levels of sustainability.  All the soft components in the interior are made from recycled polyester in a variety of forms. And even the different grades of aluminum used in the car’s construction are labeled for easier recycling and upcycling, reducing the use of virgin aluminum.  But here’s what’s most exciting about the concept car: it comes with an integrated autonomous drone that can fly around and film you as you drive! Check it out:

To create this cool memory-making feature, Polestar teamed up with Aerofugia’s consumer electronics brand Hoco Flow.  A special aerofoil that raises behind the rear seats allows the drone to take off when the car is on the move. The drone operates autonomously and follows the car at speeds up 90 km/h. The driver can also choose between an atmospheric or action-filled sequence, depending on their surroundings and, well, the mood. After filming, the drone autonomously returns back to the car. The video clips are then directly shared to a 15-inch center display when the car is parked, and the driver can edit them as they wish.  Well, I don’t know about you, but if I was driving a sleek electric roadster, I’d definitely want to remember my rides — and boast about them to my friends.  And while there’s no word that Polestar will actually produce the O₂ (it’s more likely to inspire the brand’s potential future roadster), I do hope that we’ll see the drone in the upcoming Polestar 4 and 5.
