Late last week, the UK’s tax office, Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (HMRC), issued an update to its guidelines for how businesses and individuals should pay tax on their cryptocurrency. Bear in mind these guidelines relate only to what HMRC refers to as “exchange tokens,” which include Bitcoin. Guidance on security and utility tokens is coming at a later date. The TL;DR? If you deal in cryptocurrency in the UK you probably owe tax on it, and HMRC doesn’t class the digital tokens as money or currency....

Around 3,420 Coinbase customers have allegedly been affected by a bug on the exchange’s sign up page, which resulted in user passwords being stored in plain text on “internal server web logs.” The cryptocurrency exchange began emailing the affected customers to make them aware of the situation, it said in a blog post late last week. A delegation from the US House of Representatives is due to meet with authorities in Switzerland this week to discuss digital currencies, in particular Facebook’s Libra....

According to the complaint, Musk’s posts violated his obligations to refrain from disparaging Twitter....

Researchers at MIT CSAIL developed the algorithm in response to the rapid disappearance of human languages. Most of the languages that have existed are no longer spoken, and at least half of those remaining are predicted to vanish in the next 100 years. The new system could help recover them. Although the Breakthrough Listen team is still working on the data, we know that the radio signal was detected by the Parkes telescope in Australia while it was pointing at Proxima Centauri, which is thought to be orbited by at least one habitable planet. Earlier today, Nissan, that Japanese car company that usually has its head screwed on pretty well, posted a tweet. And it’s the most insane tweet I’ve ever read, and I follow Elon Musk. It’s 100% electric-motor driven in the sense that only the electric motor is connected to the wheels, but the battery that powers it gets its energy from burning fossil fuels....
