The Threads app information on the App Store also notes you can now use it to speak to everyone in your DMs, whether or not they have Threads. The update info reads, “Now you can access all of your Instagram messages” but also notes, “Your chats with close friends will be prioritized in your inbox....

The report comes from Craig Lloyd of iFixit, and shows what the warning looks like. The user receives a “Service” notification alerting them to a problem with the new battery and directing them to the Settings app. In the Battery Health settings, an Important Message reads: “Unable to verify this iPhone has a genuine Apple battery. Health information not available for this battery.” iFixit confirmed this service message appears in the iPhones XR, XS, and XS Max....

Well, “reveal” is a bit of a stretch. Google itself has already given us a solid look at the phone’s exterior design and announced its most notable specification: the new in-house Google Tensor processor. The company has also given us a few details about the camera and other features. Here’s what we know officially so far: There are (at least) two new devices, the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro....

The Kazakhstan government has started to intercept all HTTPS traffic from all devices within its borders effective July 17, reports ZDNet. Local internet service providers (ISPs) have been instructed by the government to force their citizens to install a state-authorized certificate on all devices, and all browsers. This certificate allows the Kazakhstan government to decrypt HTTPS internet traffic, view its contents, and then re-encrypt it with the certificate once again before it is sent to its destination, making it easy for the Kazakhstan government to surveil its citizens’ online activities....

This week, it’s the turn of South Korean wallet-friendly carmaker Kia. Last week, Kia playfully teased us with some shots of its upcoming electric vehicle, the creatively named EV6. While the teaser photos didn’t tell us much, Kia didn’t keep us waiting for long as it published some new photos this morning to give us a better look at the car. Take a look: Kia sees the EV6 as its first dedicated EV, given that it’s built on the E-GMP platform, which is only meant for electric vehicles....

Okay, that’s not entirely true. Microsoft’s busy pushing its upcoming Gears of War 5, so it’s no surprise it’s chosen to focus on that. However, AoE4‘s absence was noted. When asked about it by a reporter, Xbox Marketing Manager Aaron Greenberg said, “Our next big beat is XO19. I would suggest that people watch that… Cannot confirm or deny anything, but [you] definitely want to tune in.” (For those who don’t know, XO19 is an Xbox fan event taking place in London....

The statement of intent is positive. There’s a growing body of research that suggests ride-share trips are more polluting than conventional car journeys, because of how many miles ride-share cars drive between passenger journeys. All things considered, ride-share journeys end up being more polluting as a result. There’s also a growing group of people petitioning to get all ride-hailing providers to pivot entirely to clean zero-emission vehicles. It’s definitely a welcome move....

The electric vehicle market has seen incredible growth in the past decade. There were 7.2 million EVs on the road in 2019, despite there being less than 20,000 in use just nine years earlier. New models emerge all the time – and the Kenguru is easily one of the most intriguing. In an innovative and competitive market, the Kenguru manages to stand apart from other EVs. It’s not the fastest electric car, nor does it have the longest range, but it does have one notable claim to fame....

If that sounds familiar, it’s probably because it’s yet another feature Facebook is borrowing from Snapchat, which has offered similar functionality for years. To activate the feature, you need only swipe up within a chat thread. You’ll then see a little loading circle and your interface will turn dark to indicate the feature has been activated. To exit Vanish Mode, you just need to swipe up again. The idea appears to be to allow users to enter and exit Vanish Mode at will when they want to share something confidential without the worry of those messages remaining on record forever....

The Silicon Valley behemoth on Tuesday revealed the latest aspect of its reformed character. The company pledged to eliminate ad-targeting related to ‘sensitive’ topics, such as race, health, political belief, or sexual orientation. Now you don’t have to choose, for Microsoft has created the $25, aptly-named Bluetooth Number Pad that you can add to any PC. Okay, so Microsoft is far from the first to cook up a separate number pad. But despite the fact the device should work with any computer, I can’t help but feel like it was devised for Surface users missing those extra keys when inputting data into Excel....

According to Microsoft, it allows all apps to make the best of both screens, or, as they put it, “to fuel a new era of productivity and creativity across two screens.” Applications can be “spanned” across two screens, optimizing the layout so that it’ll work on both....

Milan is set to create 750 kilometers of dedicated cycle paths by 2035 as part of plans to cut pollution and boost sustainable travel. The Cambio plan — adopted in November last year by the Italian city’s Metropolitan Council — is set to launch this summer, with a budget of €250 million (US$282 million). The web of cycle paths — which consist of four ring roads, four greenways, and 16 radiating lines — will connect the city core to its suburbs and surrounding municipalities....

Until March, rogue Monero miners were hypothetically able to create “specifically-crafted” blocks to force Monero wallets into accepting fake deposits for an XMR amount chosen by the attacker. “It is our belief that this can be exploited to steal money from exchanges,” said security researchers in their initial HackerOne report. They were eventually awarded 45 XMR ($4,100) for their efforts. Five DoS attack vectors were also disclosed, with one labeled “critical” severity....

With every passing week the outlook for Facebook’s ‘cryptocurrency’ Libra looks worse and worse. After meeting with Suisse financial regulators last week concerns still remain for representatives of the US Financial Services Committee. “My concerns remain with allowing a large tech company to create a privately controlled, alternative global currency,” chariwoman Maxine Waters said in a statement yesterday. The fight’s not over for Libra yet. Cryptocurrency mining mainstay Bitmain Technologies has allegedly placed an order for 600,000 mining chips, The Block reports....
