The device won an innovation award in the robotics category at CES this year, but the organization responsible for the event, the Computer Technology Association (CTA), swiftly rescinded the award and banned Lora DiCarlo from exhibiting its products at the event. The market research firm says the tech giant bought more AI companies than anyone else between 2016 and 2020. Nikkei reports Apple had previously planned to release the more affordable iPhone in the spring; it was just yesterday we reported on a rumor pegging the device’s announcement as March 31. According to Nikkei‘s report, Apple was expected to begin producing the new devices by the end of February, but meeting that target is currently “very challenging” and production could be delayed until sometime in March. Apple’s iPhone suppliers are reportedly operating at 30 to 50 percent at the moment....

Project Maven, for those unfamiliar, is a Pentagon program to build an AI-powered surveillance platform for unmanned aerial vehicles. Basically, the job is to build a system for the US military to deploy and monitor autonomous drones. This system would, supposedly, give the government real-time battlefield command and control and the ability to track, tag, and spy on targets without human involvement. The limited, unclassified information available makes it appear as though the project stops just short of functioning as an AI weapons system capable of firing on self-designated targets as they become available in the battle space....

AT&T is Crunchyroll’s current parent company, having bought it in 2018. Though Crunchyroll isn’t quite the size of Hulu or Netflix, at about 70 million free subscribers (3 million paying) its specialized content could help Sony build strong foundations with a loyal audience. A report by the Washington-based Middle East Media Research Institutes (MEMRI) has found that terrorist organizations like ISIS, Al-Qaeda and Hamas are using Telegram and social-media platforms to raise cryptocurrency, the Jewish News Syndicate reports. One of the most concerning findings of the report is that the upcoming distribution of Telegram’s Gram token and launch of its blockchain network will likely make the situation worse. According to a report from Netzpolitik, leaked documents reveal TikTok had special rules in place for those with some visible or obvious form of disability or disfigurement.
