According to figures from the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) published late last month, in the 12 months leading up to September 2019 the Tesla Model 3 was the most registered battery electric vehicle in the UK. Even though deliveries of the vehicle only began in summer of 2019, more than 5,500 Tesla Model 3’s were registered in the 12-month period. The only vehicles to outdo the Model 3 are Mitsubishi’s Outlander and the BMW 5 Series E, both of which are plug-in hybrid electric vehicles....

A just-released Consumer Reports survey puts all four Tesla models in its Top 10 most satisfying vehicles. The rankings covered value, comfort, driving, cabin storage, in-car electronics, and styling. Honda Insight Hybrid is the only electrified vehicle besides Tesla to show up in the Top 5 of any of those categories (styling). On the other hand, the least satisfying list has the Chevrolet Bolt (dinged for comfort and styling) and Honda Clarity (driving and in-car electronics) in its five worst categories....

According to Electrek, Tesla has improved the energy density of its 2170 cells by around 5%. The 2021 Model 3 specification lists an 82 kWh battery — a 7 kWh improvement over the car’s current 75 kWh pack. In reality, this means that Tesla can now squeeze 353 miles of range out of its Long Range Model 3, a nice 31-mile increase over the current (2020) version. This news isn’t entirely unexpected....

Italian physicist Alessandro Volta tapped into fundamental electrochemical principles when he invented the first battery in 1800. Essentially, the physical joining of two different materials, usually metals, generates a chemical reaction that results in the flow of electrons from one material to the other. That stream of electrons represents portable energy that can be harnessed to generate power. The first materials people employed to make batteries were copper and zinc....

So where’d these changes come from? They came from a few games that, through their impact and popularity, changed the gaming industry as a whole. I won’t lie to you: trying to rank influence is really difficult. It operates on the same basis as Bird and Lime, with users paying based on their usage. The main difference is, well… pogo sticks. That alone raises eyebrows. And then there’s the fact that the company is owned by ODD Company, a branding and communications agency that has produced viral stunts for companies like Carlsberg, German travel agency Tui, and the Movember Foundation....

Trends between Europe and the United States These trends are related to the complete disruption that has occurred in the mobility sector over the past few years, such as 1.) disinvestment in public transport, 2.) over-reliance on VC funding for mobility startups, 3.) questionable business models, 4.) labor and employment status, and 5.) lack of public / private partnerships and coordination, and 6.) increase in individual auto usage and anti-urbanism. Each one of these have had massive implications for how new mobility ventures start, operate, and either succeed (or fail) in the long run....

I reviewed the Juiced CrossCurrent X a couple of years and found it to be an impressive option for ebike riders looking for an insane amount of range — over 150 miles, if you don’t mind pedaling at a leisurely pace — or a high-speed ride capable of going over 28mph. At present, the only emoji that has anything to do with powering or fueling a vehicle is the gas pump emoji: ⛽️. But times are changing, carmakers are transitioning to battery electric drivetrains and the automotive world is attempting to clean up its act. The gas pump emoji’s days are numbered it would seem. With that, Electrify America is proposing an EV charging emoji to take its place. Take a look at it below: “Pushing for an emoji that reflects the experiences of EV drivers is part of Electrify America’s goal to increase EV awareness and adoption, and support the transition to a cleaner energy future – a shift that will have impact on Americans and people around the world,” said Rich Steinberg, director of marketing and communications at Electrify America....

This announcement might suggest that the transition to more sustainable mobility is ambitious but straightforward. After all, we already know how to build a decent electric car and charging point technologies are also well established. So surely the green revolution is a simple matter of increasing the pace and scale of what is already here? But this glosses over the complexities of such a radical transition. There is still a great degree of uncertainty involved in everything – from how many charge points will be needed and where, to how our practices and our streets might have changed by the time we reach the other side of the transition....
